Wills, Probate & Change of Name (Deed Poll)
For a non-Muslim who died intestate (without a will), the distribution of his/her will be in accordance to the rules of distribution in the Intestate Succession Act (Chapter 146).
We encourage our clients, regardless of their ages, to draw up wills. Not only does this bring certainty to your loved ones, it also greatly reduces any dispute that may arise amongst them.
Probate or Letters of Administration
Death is inevitable. And when it does, confusion may arise as to what is going to happen next. The surviving needs to move on and steps need to be taken for the deceased’s properties to be distributed amongst them.
Depending on whether the deceased left a will, an application for a Grant of Probate or Grant of Letters of Administration will have to be taken out.
Change of Name (Deed Poll)
To change your name on the NRIC (and subsequently other documents), such as adding a Chinese Name or adopting one spouse’s name, a deed poll is required.
